A rigid seatpost is arguably the simplest, most common and often the cheapest form of post available on the market, and one which will be suitable for both road and mountain biking. Essentially it is a tube which inserts into the frame’s seat tube, and connects to the underside of the saddle, thus fixing it at the required height and position. The rigid nature of the post means that very little energy is lost due to movement when pedalling. The simplicity of this design means that it is normally the cheapest kind of seatpost that you can purchase, and usually the type that comes as standard when purchasing a complete bike. Usually the material involved in rigid posts is alloy, but higher end models use carbon for it’s lightweight properties. Below are a selection of rigid seatposts, with each model featuring a full specification.
